Imagine Grinnell is excited to continue the tradition of the Turkey Trot 5K Run and Walk, previously led by local organizers who are stepping down. This Thanksgiving morning, Imagine Grinnell will host both the Turkey Trot and the Gravel Gobbler 16K bike ride, welcoming runners, walkers, and riders of all levels. The event kicks off at Merrill Park on Thursday, November 28, at 8:30 A.M.
Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the MICA Food Pantry. Suggested donations include baking supplies, canned vegetables and fruit, pancake mix, syrup, cereal, soup, and ramen.
Gravel Gobbler Bike Ride
The Gravel Gobbler is a mixed-surface bike ride covering approximately 10 miles, suitable for riders of all abilities. The route begins at Merrill Park, taking participants along mixed road and gravel paths within the city. Riders should dress warmly and are required to wear helmets.
Turkey Trot 5K Run and Walk
The Turkey Trot route also starts at Merrill Park, winding north through the Country Club neighborhood. Participants are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather.
“Imagine Grinnell has been part of the Gravel Gobbler ride for the past three years, and adding the Turkey Trot seemed like a natural fit,” said Tim Ellsworth, Imagine Grinnell’s chair. “We’re excited to bring runners and riders together for a fun, pre-Thanksgiving activity.”
Participants are encouraged to arrive early for a group photo before the events begin. Imagine Grinnell looks forward to hosting this Thanksgiving tradition that combines community, fitness, and giving back.
Imagine Grinnell is a partner program of the Claude W. and Dolly Ahrens Foundation, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for current and future generations through parks, recreation, education, and health initiatives in collaboration with its partners.
