At the International Women’s Day event, we will be collecting donations of personal care items to send to Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) and Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA). CIS helps people rebuild their lives in the aftermath of sexual assault, domestic violence, or other violent crimes. MICA helps low-income central Iowan families.
Items such as tampons, pads, body wash, lip balm, lotion, shaving razors, shampoo, conditioner, and Ethnic hair care items such as coconut oil (for hair), soft bristled brushes and shower caps. Individual items are accepted (such as extra tampons, pads, razors, shower caps, or lip balm) from a larger package, as long as they are unopened/unused.
Monetary donations will also be accepted, checks should be written to Ahrens Foundation, with the memo line “Personal Care Drive”. Cash is also accepted. Donations are tax-deductible and donors will receive a receipt letter.
This drive will continue after the International Women’s Day at local area businesses (we will announce the locations at a later date). The hygiene drive will end on Sunday, May 10 for Mother’s Day.
