Giving Gardens
The Giving Gardens is a collaborative effort by local organizations aiming to improve the health of Poweshiek County by providing free access to fresh, local produce. The gardens originally began with the Grinnell Regional Medical Center garden in 2013 as a means to provide access to healthy food options previously not available to Poweshiek County families.
During the growing season, the Giving Gardens depend on volunteers to maintain the gardens and harvest food. Harvested produce is then delivered to locations around the community where families and individuals can receive it. Area farmers and gardeners are also encouraged to donate excess produce to these locations. Families and individuals can also access the gardens directly to pick their own produce.

Potatoes in Bailey Garden just sprouted and so many tomatoes are coming in at Marvin Garden. We also found zucchini and sprouted cucumber plants at Ahrens Garden!
Stop by any of the 7 Gardens around Grinnell to follow the progress first hand!

This past week, our AmeriCorps members have worked hard to get the Gardens at Bailey Park Elementary School and Fairview Elementary - Grinnell Newburg School District planted and established. After a few days of hard work, they succeeded! You can now find these plants growing in the Gardens! *Some are still just seeds, so when you visit be careful not to disturb the soil!*
Calling all volunteers! We have 9 spots open for volunteers to help out with our "Berry" Good Time event next Wednesday from 4-6pm at Bailey Park Elementary School Giving Garden! There are 3 spots to help set up, 3 to help run the event, and 3 to help clean up!
